Paws To Remember

GOLDEN ASPEN, or Aspen for short, was born on June 18th, 2003 in Hanover, Ontario. She was one of Ivy and Max’s nine puppies. Aspen joined our family in August of 2003 and was Huib’s constant companion until she passed away on March 14th, 2013 from an aggressive form of Leukaemia. Aspen loved to swim, loved anything edible and would have followed Huib to the ends of the Earth and back. We did not always see eye to eye, she thought she was Huib’s ‘other’ wife, but her passing left a huge hole in my heart. Aspen was the first golden retriever we had shared our home with, and her love and devotion sparked our lifelong love of the breed.

PHOENIX was born on October 22nd, 1996. He was my second dog guide from the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. I was partnered with Phoenix on July 23rd, 1998, and worked with him until May 13th, 2005. Phoenix was extremely loyal, Phoenix was devious and Phoenix was a very patient teacher. Phoenix showed me the true meaning of unconditional love. Even after his retirement Phoenix remained devoted to me until the very end. I had to say goodbye to my old friend on August 11th, 2011, but have never forgotten his love, his friendship and the lessons he taught me.

REECE, was born on December 20th, 2008 at Woodbend Kennels. He was out of Lindy and Hawk’s first litter together, and has 10 siblings whom are also chocolate colour. Reece was our second foster puppy from Autism Dog Services, and was career changed at 10 months of age when he was diagnosed with ununited coronoid process. Reece was adopted by another ADS foster family and shares his home with another male chocolate lab named Urban who had also been an ADS puppy in training. Reece challenged us a great deal and would have made an awesome service dog, but he was not the dog for us in the long-term.

AIDEN, was born on December 23rd, 2007 to Woodbend’s Black Satin Witch (Sadie) and Woodbend’s Lonewind Hawkeye (Hawk). He was one of seven puppies and was our first foster puppy from Autism Dog Services. Aiden was a quick learner and a joy to raise. he graduated in June of 2009 and works with a young boy in Lindsay, Ontario.
