Christmas

How was everyone’s Christmas?

Ours was good, but very busy.

I had a friend and her 9 year old yellow lab, Maggie, come visit on the 22nd. Maggie got along well with the dogs, so I can definitely see there being more visits from her and Angela. The dogs were spoiled by them. they got: a package of training treats, rawhide doughnuts that actually look like they have icing on them and a package of greenies.

My sister and brother-in-law came with Dexter on the 23rd. They gave the dogs a long purple and white tug rope for Christmas along with an ornament for the tree. Each ornament was a golden or lab head with their name written on a bone under the dog’s head. I also got a chocolate scented stuffed moose that I put on the tree. These were early presents, Brandi and Mark were staying until the 26th.

On the 24th, Kira and I went to work for a few hours with Huib. We brought Canyon and Arizona with us. We helped cut out material for stockings and then stuffed the finished stockings with clementines and socks or scarves for the residents. After Huib finished work we took Kira home and then headed to the mall to finish off our Christmas shopping. When we got home we rushed around trying to get ready for Kira and her family to arrive with one of Huib and Sam’s co-workers, Elizabeth.

We had an excellent dinner and had a lot of fun opening gifts and watching the others open theirs. We got some pretty awesome stuff: Roots t-shirts, a mug that looks like a rusted camping cup, a cute Roots ornament and some socks, as well as, 2 butter rum scented jar candles and some fruit covered in chocolate. Kira even made the dogs stuffed toys out of felt.

My sister and Mark ended up going home early that evening because of a disagreement, but came back a few days later. From them Huib got a gorgeous black leather bag for work and I got: a sweat shirt and sweat pants from a store in Huntsville that sells Bear Paw clothing, an adorable snowman snow globe and a 25 dollar iTunes card.

My mom’s family came over on the 26th for dinner. We also had Kira and Sam come, so it was wonderful. Most of the family are sick with the flu, so only two of my aunts and one of my cousins with her kids was able to make it. From my one aunt we got a casserole style crockpot. We really enjoyed chatting with everyone and playing board games. My cousin’s kids are cute. Danny is four and Biinizi is eight.

On the 27th and 28th we had the Elora Gorge Kennel Club show. Arizona was a bit of a goof on the Saturday, but she showed quite well on the Sunday. Unfortunately she lost both days. Canyon was his usual professional self, but there was a larger entry of golden retrievers, so the poor guy lost both days as well.

I think we are going to take a couple of months off. Let the dogs relax and our wallet recuperate 🙂

It has been a really nice Christmas. I can’t wait for school to start again though.

Getting Into the Christmas Spirit

Now that I am done school for a few weeks, it was time to turn the house into a holiday oasis.

Kira hugs a big, tall spruce tree.

Huib cuts down the tree.

Kira, Huib and I went to a tree farm just outside of Guelph to pick out our Christmas tree.

I am standing in front of our Christmas tree with my sister

Me with my sister and step-dad in front of the tree. We also have /Canyon, Rogue, Cessna, Arizona and their cousin Dexter sitting with us.

After we did some decorating, Brandi I headed to Walmart to pick up some last minute decorations.

I also did some modelling…

This is a light brown dog hat. The ears move along to some Christmas music.

This one is a red and white elf hat with bells that sings & moves.

Her's a red Santa hat with zebra print on the brim and the pom-pom.

This is a camouflage hat with moose antlers that move along to Christmas music.

We had a busy and fun weekend. I can’t wait for Christmas to come.

Canada Day

Rogue and I standing together. Rogue is wearing her red and black guide harness, you only see the black straps that come over her shoulders and a bit of the red canvas lower on her chest. She's also wearing a red limited slip collar with Cessna's black leather braided leash and is pulling toward the camera. I'm standing to her right wearing blue denim jeans, tan running shoes, a red long sleeved shirt and a red baseball cap that says Canada in white stitching.

earlier this evening, Huib, Rogue and I went to Riverside Park here in Guelph to check out the Canada Day festivities. There were some carnival rides and games, as well as, some food and snack vendors. There was even a band playing, followed by some loud music over the radio. rogue was a little too excited, so needed to wear her silver Halti, but she had no issues with all of the people, noise and smells. Whenever we stopped, she focused on me, nose targeting my leg, and when she was distracted, she was easily redirected to us. I think with a little more time to mature, she won’t need the Halti at all.

Fireworks in the sky. there's a yellow one just above the red one.

Fireworks in the sky. There's a white one above the yellow one.

Later, Huib and I went to the fireworks display put on by the rotary Club. for safety reasons they had the park blocked off, so everyone was lined up along the sidewalks. It was really neat to watch the fireworks go up and then explode in the sky. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to see anything, since losing more of my sight about two and a half years ago I’m not able to see a lot of what I used to, but I was delighted to discover that I could see them. I wasn’t able to tell what colours they were, but Huib told me as they lit up the sky.

I hope everyone had a safe Canada Day.

It’s Canada Day!

Cessna, Canyon, Rogue and I wanted to take a moment to wish all of our fellow Canadians a very Happy Canada Day!

There are some special events going on at some of the parks around Guelph, so I think we’ll take Rogue and Cessna to check things out.

Later in the evening, there will be fireworks, so the dogs will stay home while Huib, dad and I go watch them. I used to take Phoenix to fireworks displays, but I have heard of other people needing to retire their guides after such events, so I won’t ever take another one of my dogs. so far, none of my dogs seem phased by the sounds of fireworks, so I’d rather keep it that way.

Happy Canada Day Everyone!!

Naughty Or Nice?

Rogue sits between two large Pointsettias wearing her teal Active Dogs vest and Silverfoot collar and leash with various shades of blue on it. She's looking towards the camera winking.

Merry Christmas!!

Hi All, it’s Cessna here. I wanted to take over the laptop to send you all a seasons greetings and also to tell everyone how spoiled we were by Santa Paws.

First things first…

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of our friends and blog followers! We hope Santa Paws was as good to you as he was to us, and also that you were blessed with a white Christmas (if you wanted one).

For Christmas this year, Santa Paws decided to bring us joint presents, instead of individual ones. I think this was a good idea because then Canyon doesn’t have to steal our gifts, he can just hoard them all BOL!

So the first really cool thing, in my opinion anyways, that Santa paws brought us is from Nothing Added. It’s a Christmas Box full of yummy dehydrated treats! Some of the things we got in it are: beef tripe, duck feet, beef liver, anchovies, Alaskan Pollock, chicken feet, beef trachea, and many other things that I cannot remember.

And guess what else?

Some new toys!!!

Santa Paws brought us a corduroy moose that makes a honking noise and has squeakers in each of his limbs, a squeaky donkey, a squeaky frog, a squeaky pig and a red JW Pets ball.

Oh, and before I go, Santa Paws also brought the cats each a large package of Temptations treats. Logan got beef flavour, Laya dairy and Branden (Aunty Brandi’s cat) received turkey flavour.

All of us at ruled by paws, hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday season.

Kisses and Tail Wags,

Cessna

Presents, Presents

Hey There,
It’s Cessna here. I asked Mommy if I could come on here to tell you all about the presents Santa Paws brought us. We were spoiled this year!

Since Rogue is the baby in the family, she got pretty spoiled, with lots of toys and treats. She got:
• A light pink Hugglehound corduroy rabbit
• A stuffed penguin that squeaks
• A plush Santa toy that holds plastic water bottles
• A short rope bone
• A Skinneeez raccoon
• A package of beef flavoured Snausages

Aspen doesn’t like to play as much as the rest of us, so she didn’t get as many toys, but she loves her presents! She got:
• A soft squeaky gingerbread woman wearing a pink skirt
• A long, soft, squeaky brown dog
• A big rawhide candy cane
• A package of beef flavoured Snausages

Canyon thinks all of the new toys are his, but he got some of his own presents as well. He got:
• a brown Hugglehound corduroy reindeer
• a Skinneeez fox
• a big squeaky toy that looks like a hard candy wrapped in a felt brown, orange and red wrapper (Mommy says he got this because he’s the Candyman)
• an orange canvas bone that squeaks
• a package of beef flavoured Snausages

And last but not least, here’s what Santa Paws brought me!
• A green rubber ball that has long, black nylon ribbons going through it and little green rubber balls on the ends of each ribbon (this is an awesome toy for shaking around and playing tug!)
• A soft, panda bear that has a rope going through it
• A package of beef flavoured Snausages

When Mommy and Daddy helped us take all our presents out of our stockings, we had a blast wrestling and chasing one another around the living room. Mommy says this year is the first year she can really say we looked like human children on Christmas morning!

Me and the rest of the ruled by paws gang hope you and your families were also spoiled by Santa Paws.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Lots of Kisses and Tail Wags,

Cessna

A Word From Canyon

Hey There Friends & Followers!
Mommy asked me, Canyon, the most handsomest stud of all, to send you all a quick message from the ruled by paws gang.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

We hope your holidays are filled with never ending laughter and wagging tails!

Christmas Is Love

Here’s another Christmas poem a friend sent me via e-mail that I had to share. I could totally see Rogue as one of these puppies.

It’s the day before Christmas

And all through the house

The puppies are squeaking

An old rubber mouse.

The wreath which had merrily

Hung on the door

Is scattered in pieces

All over the floor.

The stockings that hung

In a neat little row

Now boast a hole

In each one of the toes.

The tree was subjected

To bright eyed whims,

And now, although still splendid,

It’s missing some limbs.

I catch them and hold them.

“Be good”, I insist.

They lick me, then run off

To see what they’ve missed!

And now as I watch them

The thought comes to me,

That theirs is the spirit

That Christmas should be.

Should children and puppies

Yet show us the way,

And teach us the joy

That should come with this day?

Could they bring the message

That’s written above,

And tell us that, most of all,

Christmas is love.

If You See A Fat Man

I got this from a friend via e-mail, so thought I’d share it here, to bring a little Christmas spirit.

If you see a fat man

who’s jolly and cute

Wearing a beard

and a red flannel suit

And if he is chuckling

and laughing away

While flying around

In a miniature sleigh

With eight tiny reindeer

To pull him along

Then let’s face it

Your eggnog’s too strong!
