For anyone who is interested, here is the recipe for Canyon’s birthday treats. I think I copied the recipe from a site called Dog Tipper.
Banana Oat & Carob Bites
3 large (very ripe) bananas
1/2 cup (125 mL) all-natural (just peanuts) peanut butter (we used Kraft chunky)
1/4 cup (60 mL) canola oil (we used vegetable)
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
2 cups (500 mL) quick oats (or old-fashioned large flake)
2 Tbsp (30 mL) ground flaxseed (optional)
1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
1/4 tsp (1 mL) cinnamon
pinch of salt
1/2 cup (125 mL) carob chips (optional, we had powdered so just mixed it into the batter)
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas with the peanut butter, oil and vanilla.
3. Add the oats, flaxseed, baking powder, cinnamon and salt and stir just until blended. Add the optional carob chips and stir until combined. (we let the batter sit for about 20-30 minutes so that the oats had a chance to absorb some of the liquid because the batter was pretty thin)
4. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet that has been sprayed with nonstick spray, and bake for 12-14 minutes, until just set. Let cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
